The Purple Guide was created to ensure appropriate medical support at events, but it can sometimes be a bit unclear. For example, it suggests that any event lasting a single day falls into Tier 3 (see the table below). However, events with a capacity of fewer than 500 people at a time, and those with overnight camping over three days, may fall into both Tier 1 and Tier 3 categories. Because of these inconsistencies, some ambulance services still rely on the older scoring system for certain events. It's important to keep in mind that the guide is updated regularly, and we make every effort to keep this information current, but it remains accurate only as of its publication date.
By considering both calculators, you, as the event organiser, can make a more informed decision about the level of medical cover your event needs. If you require any additional assistance with event planning or resources, our team at Glasgow Medical Group Ltd is ready to support you.
This guide is intended as a recommendation, but failure to follow these guidelines may affect the approval of your event during the Safety Advisory Group (SAG) meeting. As the event organiser, you are responsible for ensuring your medical provider is not only adequately staffed but also highly competent. At Glasgow Medical Group Ltd, our Event Medical Services teams are fully trained, insured, uniformed, and highly skilled. Trained by paramedics and nurses, our teams are among the best available, committed to delivering outstanding pre-hospital care while reducing the pressure on local emergency services.
