Administering Emergency Medical Gases

Course overview

The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Administering Emergency Medical Gases is a comprehensive and specialized training program designed to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and effectively administer medical gases during emergency situations. This regulated qualification follows the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) standards, ensuring the highest quality of training for participants.


Course Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will:


1. Understand the Importance of Medical Gases:

   - Learn about the various medical gases used in emergency situations.

   - Gain insight into the physiological effects of medical gases on patients.


2. Safe Administration of Medical Gases:

   - Explore the principles of safe administration, including dosage calculations and   equipment handling.

   - Understand infection control measures and hygiene practices related to medical gas administration.


3. Emergency Scenarios and Responses:

   - Learn to identify different emergency scenarios that require medical gas administration.

   - Develop the ability to respond promptly and appropriately in emergency situations.


4. Patient Assessment and Monitoring:

   - Gain skills in assessing patients' conditions and needs before administering medical gases.

   - Understand how to monitor patients' responses to medical gas administration.


5. Communication and Teamwork:

   - Enhance communication skills for effectively coordinating with medical teams during emergency situations.

Course Duration:

The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Administering Emergency Medical Gases is typically conducted over a span of 6 hours. This duration includes a mix of theoretical instruction, practical training, interactive discussions, and scenario-based learning.

 Learners must: 

  • Be at least 16 years old on the first day of the training.


Before they can register for this qualification, Learners must have:


  • • Successfully completed a Level 3 First Aid at Work (QCF/RQF) (FAW) or QA recognised equivalent, and
  • Knowledge/awareness of an automated external defibrillator (AED) if it isn’t incorporated into th

 Learners must: 

  • Be at least 16 years old on the first day of the training.


Before they can register for this qualification, Learners must have:


  • • Successfully completed a Level 3 First Aid at Work (QCF/RQF) (FAW) or QA recognised equivalent, and
  • Knowledge/awareness of an automated external defibrillator (AED) if it isn’t incorporated into the FAW


There are no other formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that Learners have a

minimum of Level 2 in literacy or equivalent and a basic understanding of first aid.
